The Center for Human Rights and Constitutional Law (CHRCL), is a Los Angeles-based nonprofit litigation and advocacy program focusing on the fundamental rights of vulnerable and indigent communities including immigrants, refugees, children, indigenous peoples, and other insular minorities. The National Immigration Project (NIP/NLG) of the National Lawyers Guild is a membership organization of lawyers, law students, legal workers, and community advocates working to defend the rights of all immigrants in the United States, regardless of legal status. It promotes justice and equality of treatment in all areas of immigration law, the criminal justice system and social policy related to immigration. Over the last 40 years, the NIP/NLG has been and continues to be a progressive source of advocacy-oriented legal support on a variety of immigrant rights issues. In the 1970s and 1980s the NIP/NLG focused its advocacy on asylum-seekers from Central America. In the 1990s, the NIP/NLG challenged the government’s use of secret evidence against noncitizens, and expanded its support for immigrant survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and for noncitizens living with HIV/AIDS.
